Welcome back Mr. Malevich
The project 'Welcome back Mr. Malevich' is inspired by the paintings of Kazimir Malevich.
Kazimir Malevich (1879-1935) is one of the most significant artists of the 20th century.
In 1915, he introduced his own painterly style, which he called Suprematism. This new abstract approach emphasized the supremacy of color and shape in painting.
The emblem of Suprematism, Malevich’s painting Black Square, became one of the most recognizable works in the art world.
In the final decade of his life, Kazimir Malevich created his 'second peasant cycle', a body of work that becomes one of the most significant in his opus.
The treatment of the human figurine this cycle raws on the range of sources; archaic sculpture, wooden folk toys and at the same time the modernist mannequin.
The power of color, the enigmatic oval face and the clarity of form land this images a timeless expressiveness.
Confronted with a faceless figure, the viewer is compelled to project his own face onto the blank slate he finds before him, to take up the role of the peasant. Thepeasant could be anyone.

This Malevich body of work have the deep cultural social and anthropologic connotations.
He criticized the Stallin regime for the manipulation of the people by propaganda, fear and terror, converting persons in numbers, human beings without identity.

The problems which Malevich treat in his paintings are still actual.
Today the manipulation and control of masses, is much more sophisticated and effective.

In this project, using the Malevich's esthetic and iconography I tried to show the some challenges of the contemporary person in the modern society.

Absence of the face speak about the lost of identity,
Blurred images and robot like postures recreate sensation of alienation and automatization of the characters.
The pale colors also accentuate the atmosphere of solitude, apathy and emotionlessness.
